Professor Dr. Syed Tufail Hussain Shah, Director of the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry (NCEAC), University of Sindh, Jamshoro delivered a Keynote Lecture in the “1st International Multidisciplinary Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering Technology-2023 (1st IMCEET-2023)” on 9th May 2023. Event was organized by the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development – BBSUTSD, Khairpur Mirs, Sindh, Pakistan on May 9-11, 2023
The topic of the Keynote Lecture was “Application of metal nanoparticles as sensors for the determination of some harmful substances”. Thet nanotechnology is playing an undeniable and very important role in everyday life, particularly in the field of Science and Technology. Applications of nanotechnology are rapidly changing the style of entire society and leading to the development of efficient, durable, and smart products.
Several capping agents such as surfactants, drugs, amino acids, fatty acids, and polymers are used to avoid aggregation, increase stability of metal nanoparticles (MNPs), to achieve desired morphology and size of MNPs. The fabrication of MNPs is usually carried by chemical reduction of biological methods using different suitable capping agents. In the keynote lecture, several colorimetric sensors were explored using different metal NPs functionalized with diverse capping agent agents such as acetyl salicylic acid, cefuroxime, L-cysteine and plant extract for the determination of some harmful substances like Fe3+., picric acid, mercuric ion, Enzyme Disrupter Fungicide Vinclozolin and Cr6+.
