History:
The Centre has a liaison with the Department of Chemistry, University of Selçuk, Konya/Turkey for quiet a long time. Binational seminar is a part of this liaison. The 1st Pak-Turk Binational Seminar on “Chemical Sciences” was held on 26-28th April 2007 and hosted by Department of Chemistry, Selçuk University, Konya, Turkey. A group of 08 senior faculty members from this Center (NCEAC) presented their work at this Seminar. About 150 eminent chemists from different Turkish universities participated. During the visit an MOU was signed between the Centre and the Department of Chemistry, Selçuk University, Konya, Turkey. This event encouraged our Turkish counter parts for a mutual collaborative research program. Dr. Shahabuddin Memon Associate Professor of this Centre and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yilmaz of Selçuk University have launched a joint project titled: “Synthesis of novel calixarene derivatives and the development of analytical methods/ techniques for the removal of toxic metals especially Arsenic from water”. The funding of this collaborative project has been made by Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK Grant No. B.02.1.TBT. 0.08.76.01-727-PK-152) and Ministry of Science and Technology Islamabad-Pakistan [(No. 12 (106-B)/2004-ASA(IL)] 2008-2010.
Later on, it was decided that the 2nd Seminar, in this connection will be organized by the NCEAC, University of Sindh, Jamshoro and should be expanded by inviting renowned chemists from foreign countries.
